We're outta here

Its nearly October and that means the off-season is coming to an end. I would have to say that "off" is a heavy word for what actually happens during the summer months. Its actually more important than the regular season itself. What we do during the summer will reflect directly in our competitive results. That is why we come to San Diego.

But why San Diego? Yes, I know there isn't a Bobsled track here, and I'm very aware that it doesn't snow. That's pretty much the point. Nowhere in the world can we bobsled from April to October so we might as well spend the time where the weather is nearly perfect. It's also the perfect choice because not only does it have great weather but its also home to one of three US Olympic Training Centers; the others being in Colorado Springs, CO; and Lake Placid, NY. Its really a match made in heaven.

The begining of the end

Well, okay, its actually just the beginning. This will be the first of many blogs I plan to post over the next 4 years leading up to (and during) the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, BC. And there isn't an end in sight because after 2010, I'll be writing about 2014. Its a vicious cycle.

I have to tell you though, I can't honestly say that I'm going to write everyday, or that you should expect a new entry on a regular basis. Instead, what I can guarantee is that I will bring some unique ideas, and new insight to you fresh from the world of bobsledding. I especially hope to touch on the many aspects of the sport and the lifestyle that most people don't understand or even know about. For example, "Why do bobsledders train in San Diego? There's no snow there, no ice. It doesn't even get cold. There is no reason for you to be there." I'll answer that in a future post.

So over the next few years you're going to have inside access, and a channel straight to the top of the bobsled world to learn, discuss, and contribute to the best athletes around the United States in the sport of bobsled. One thing you need to keep in mind, and also observe, is while I discuss and explain this intricate world, people will respond and you'll start to see that many people think they know what they are talking about, or understand how this is done, but the fact is, they really don't.

So I'll tell you.

What results should our funding be based on?

Who is the US Bobsled Team?

During the season Bobsledders and Skeleton-ers are paid for the races that take place each weekend. Skeleton athletes get paid $1000 for their 1 race. Since bobsledders race twice in a weekend should they be paid twice?

How much equipment should be given to the #1 team
